Family Dog Board & Train Program

We know that life gets busy, and finding the time to train your dog properly can be incredibly challenging. This is why we at Milligan Valley K9 Academy offer our Family Dog Board & Train Program, a comprehensive three-week program designed to instill essential obedience skills and create a well-balanced, well-mannered family companion.

Why Choose a Board and Train Program?

A board and train program gives your dog a structured learning environment away from home distractions. This immersive experience allows for consistent training, socialization, and behavior reinforcement, ensuring that your dog absorbs commands effectively. Our trainers work with your dog all day, every day, refining their skills through both active and passive training techniques.

Unlike short, sporadic training sessions at home, this intensive program helps create lasting behavioral change. Plus, you’ll get the benefit of a fully trained dog without the frustration of trial-and-error learning on your own.

A Balanced Training Approach

At Milligan Valley K9 Academy, we use balanced training, a proven method that incorporates clear communication, positive reinforcement, and gentle correction when necessary. This approach helps dogs understand boundaries and expectations while building confidence and trust with their handlers.

Our training doesn’t just focus on commands. We help create a positive state of mind for your dog. A calm, well-adjusted dog is more likely to listen, follow directions, and integrate seamlessly into family life.

What Your Dog Will Learn

Throughout the three-week program, your dog will master essential obedience skills, including:
  • Recall: So your dog always comes when called.
  • Sit/Stay & Down/Stay: Teaching patience and impulse control.
  • Place: Helping your dog learn to settle calmly in a designated spot.
  • Heel: Ensuring enjoyable, controlled walks.
Beyond commands, we focus on the following aspects as well.
  • State of Mind Work: Encouraging calm, confident behavior
  • Threshold Manners: Teaching your dog patience at doors and entryways
  • Crate Manners: Making crate time a positive experience
  • General Household Manners: Preventing jumping, excessive barking, and other unwanted behaviors
  • Proper Socialization: Ensuring positive interactions with other dogs and people

24/7 On-Site Staff

What sets Milligan Valley K9 Academy apart? We live on-site, providing continuous care and supervision during the day, ensuring your dog receives the attention and training they need. Whitney and her family, along with two kennel techs, are present on the premises. While we do have cameras and alarms in place to monitor the dogs overnight, please note that we do not have staff physically monitoring the premises overnight. During training hours, your dog will experience real-life situations in a home-like setting, preparing them to transition smoothly back into your family’s routine.

The training doesn’t stop when your dog goes home. We provide a detailed go-home session, ensuring you understand how to maintain and reinforce your dog’s training. Plus, you receive unlimited private lessons for the lifetime of your dog, so you’re never alone in your training journey.
